Oh, gosh... that sounds awful. I-I mean, it's good you were close to someone. But... serial killers. J-just in general. It must be hard work.

Yeah. [ He allows, but there's some hesitance to it. ] I asked to work Homicide. It's probably not what you're thinking, it's a lot of [ —looking at black and white photos of dead bodies after everyone else has gone home— ] legwork, sometimes chasing your own tail. But it's worthwhile.

Legwork with horrible things is still horrible things. That's kind of what I did back home before everything went bad. The archives at the Institute had stories from people who were traumatized by supernatural events and monsters and things. It was my job to research those and try to verify whether they were true or not. Some of the stuff was obviously fake, but some of it... the stuff that wasn't was really bad. Just reading about it gave me nightmares sometimes.
