I mean, I'm pretty rough still, but physically, I'm a lot better now we've got to the river. We need a stable source of food, but the water was the biggest issue.

[And because he can't seem to help himself:]

Emotionally, really, really bad, but... holding it together, you know?

It is what it is. A lot was happening back home before I got here. And not finding Jon with me is just... If he's actually dead, I don't know what I'm going to do.

What was happening back home?

The apocalypse.

[Oh. Oh, no.]

Jon became a conduit for the eldritch entities causing it. And I-I had to stab him. Right before all of this. It was supposed to purge them from our universe, but it, um... it-it was sending them all to other universes. This one, maybe. But he was supposed to be okay. He wasn't supposed to die. It was just a knife. He's the Archivist, the most-the most powerful thing a person in our world could be. Stabbing him wasn't supposed to kill him.

Oh, god. I don't know why I- Oh, god! Ohgodohgodohgod!

I don't know! None of use knew what was going to happen. Not-not really. This hasn't ever happened in the existence of our universe. There were five of us. We were guessing. But this place has- it's already got signs of being influenced by the Entities. Like-like you coming back from the dead. I fell hundreds of feet and into hard earth once and got up and walked away after about fifteen minutes. Death wasn't a thing unless you were dealing with the one Entity that actually feeds on the fear of death.

[He knows he's babbling, but he can't seem to stop.]

A-and then the whole people hunting you. That's like the Hunt--one of the Entities--it feeds on the fear of being hunted and other things but that's a big part of it. So, if there is something hunting us down, then that would make sense. And you coming back would make sense. Because the Hunt doesn't want people dead. They can't be afraid if they are dead, can they?

I mean... yeah. That's part of why I haven't said anything.

Wondering will probably never go away. Just so you know. You'll keep noticing the parallels, the evidence piling up...

Yeah, thanks. I'm aware. But I'm also not sure there's anything I can actually do about it. So... [He makes a confused, helpless sound in the vein of 'I don't know.']

[ Shaw beat him to that question and the answer just breaks K's heart. No wonder Martin's been furtive about what actually happened to Jon, his home universe, everything. That's horrifying. ]

Now I understand why you're so reluctant to talk about certain things... I'm sorry, Martin.

[Mental 'oh, my god'-ing will continue until morale improves. Morale is unlikely to improve.]

You shouldn't be! I-I-I mean, I might be the reason everyone's here. I might have just murdered my boyfriend. I decided it was okay to unleash-unleash eldritch horror on the multiverse. J-just so my home world could be rid of them. Probably. Maybe. No one's sure! And so Jon didn't-so he didn't have to murder all life in existence just to starve the Entities. I did all that. I deserve literally any horrible thing that happens to me!
